In what could be described as one of the most iconic moments in the Indian electronic music scene, Get Physical Music , one of the longest standing and widely revered house music labels of the modern era, has just released an all Indian artist’s compilation titled ‘ India Gets Physical ‘ .
Started in 2005 by Booka Shade , DJ T, M.A.N.D.Y the label featured as the label of the year in 2005 by DJ Magazine, In 2006 Pitchfork Media said that the label “increasingly resembles early Warp in its elevation of club dynamics to a steely art form. Since it’s inception the label has gone on to put several chart topping releases and is instrumental in the growth of
several of today’s stars, upcoming and established.
For an international heavy weight label to release an all Indian compilation goes to show that the Indian music scene has been firmly put on the global map. Having a solid musical output for nearly two decades, much of the national talent has been quite overlooked in the general electronic music media circles. The release of India Goes Physical, has not only opened up the country’s burgeoning house music but also the general electronic music scene, to a much wider audience.
The compilation features established national talents such as Hamza, Unnayanaa, Murthovic, Arnold from Mumbai , Pawas to the talented upcoming one’s in Troja, Soulspace, Small Town guy amongst others. Soulful ethnic flavoured deep house, electronica and even smooth indie dance marks this fine overall release from this powerhouse label showcasing the depth and versatility of Indian artists.
